So I have found a new love for cooking since getting married. I have always enjoyed cooking and found it relaxing but there is something to be said for providing for your family and doing your part. I work full time and have figured out how important it is to have everything planned out and figured out ahead of time. I tried weekly menus and quickly found we weren't always hungry for what the calendar said was for dinner. So instead I began with the calendar and then gave us weekly options. Any choice could be eaten on any night depending on what we were hungry for. Most often, I figure out the basic idea the night before so I can defrost or do any prep work that is needed. My crock-pot has definitely become one of my best friends.
Well, the other night, Chris was coming home from a business trip. I thought a nice home-made meal would hit the spot when he got home so I made lasagna. It just so happened to turn out to be awesome lasagna! But as life would have it, Chris's flight got delayed and he didn't get home until long after dinner time. Once I was informed about the delay, I divided the lasagna into 4 separate serving sizes. I then placed it in the fridge in the 4 separate Tupperware containers. I just thought that since he couldn't eat it for dinner that night he might want to take it for lunch the next day. Boy did I ever earn some awesome wifey points! The next day when all Chris had to do was grab a lunch already ready to go he was excited! Then at lunch time when he had a great home-cooked meal he was thrilled. I know this because I received multiple text messages from him expressing his gratitude. Now this was not the first time I had sent left-overs with my husband for lunch. But this was the first time it was so easy! So from now on in my house, all left overs will be divided into portion sizes before being stored. Everyone should give it a try. Not only does the extra bit of effort make things easier later but it also encourages the eating of left-overs. And lets face it... No one likes wasted food!
Tonight I am making seafood gumbo for dinner. I don't know if Chris has to work late or not but either way, my husband will have a nice meal for dinner and, with my new left-over policy, great ready-to-go lunches for later in the week!
