Hi Blogger World!
I wanted to take a moment and catch you up on my life since I last posted. So far, things are going great! The best part of my month of May has been the last 12 days or so. I went to Texas and spent some time with Chris. It was so wonderful! Before I went down, we joked that we hadn't spent that many nights in a row together since we got married.
While I was in Texas, we spent the long holiday in the beautiful city of San Antonio. And we had a blast!!! I have to admit, it was like a second honeymoon and we are only 5 months into our marriage. Chris spoiled me rotten. I was trully like a queen for the weekend. We stayed at the Hilton hotel right on the riverwalk. In fact, our balcony overlooked the river. We could sit up on our balcony, enjoy a cocktail, and listen to all the great sounds of the city, including the different bands that played the riverwalk. The weekend was amazing. I can't really think of any other words to describe it. We slept in and weren't in a hurry to go anywhere. We walked the riverwalk and looked at all the different arts and craft venders that had set up along the way. We took a historical boat ride and learned about all the different buildings. In fact, we learned that our hotel holds the world's record for fastest assembly of a building it's size. It was put together like lego pieces with the beds, dressers, and everything already in the rooms in 153 days. Totally crazy!
We also toured the Alamo. It was interesting and ultamately very sad. One of the coolest parts was that Chris and I are both nerds. We both love to read everything and get all that we can out of a historical landmark. For the Alamo, we participated in an audio tour. We each got a cell phone type device. At different locations, you press different numbers that correspond with that location and hear about historical information. What I found interesting was that Chris read everything and then listens and I listen and then read. Another interesting fact about Chris and I are what we are interesting in when we go through something like the Alamo, I look at the thoughts and feelings of the historical figures. I want to place myself in their shoes. I love looking at the letters and personal things. Chris, on the other hand, likes the physical science of things. He looks at how the bullets where made, the structure of the buildings, how things were made. It's really great because then later we sit and compare notes and share with each other what we learned. Like I said... we are nerds. But I love it!
One of my favorite parts of our trip to San Antonio, and I guess to Texas was the food! We ate like royalty. Every meal was an event. We didn't go to the movies or to Six Flags or the Zoo... instead we ate the most amazing meals. My favorites were breakfast Saturday at the Guenther House Mill and Dinner at the Chop House. The Guenther House Mill is the oldest single family owned still operational mill in the country. We got there and put our name on the list. They said it would be 45 mins. until our table was ready. But they had a mill tour, museum, and gift store so we didn't even notice the time. Before we knew it, they were paging us that our table was ready. And let me tell you... the food was worth the wait. It was sooo good! I had pecan hot chocolate, breakfast tacos, fresh fruit, and pancakes! The whole experience was amazing. the service was great but the company was better.
My other favorite meal was dinner saturday night at the Chop House. The Chop House is a restauront in the top ot the stratisphere building that was built for the World's Fair that was in San Antonio. The most amazing part about this restauront is that it rotates 360 degrees giving the diners the best iew of the city. After riding a super fast elevator all the way up 200 some odd stories, we began an amazing experience. We started with drinks and apatizers in the bar. Then we were lead to our table. And here is where Chris scored major brownie points. Some how, he got us a table right in the window. We then enjoyed a three course meal including a wonderful dessert. One cool thing was we ordered everything at the beginning and then it was all served at the right time. The service was great at this restauront. You never had to ask for anything. Whatever you wanted just appeared. I had the best time. Chris and I talked about everything under the sun. We saw the entire city. Nothing was hurried or rushed. The meal, the experience, was perfection.
I spent the rest of my tme in Texas in McAllen at Chris's apartment, or our Mexican Vacation Home. Chris went back to work and I kept busy catching him up on laundry and reclaiming the apartment from its bachelorhood-ness by cleaning the apartment from top to bottom. I also layed out by the pool and spent time researching and writing. I officially started my chapter 2 which is super exciting. Now, I just have to keep working on it.
Overall, I had the best time in Texas. One week after arriving in Texas, Chris and I flew home to Birmingham together. It has been a great time last couple of days. My favorit part was when I woke up Sunday morning after 10 days with my husband, it didn't feel like a vacation or a long weekend, it felt normal!
